Have A Little Fun At Work
The Alicia principle
We did an escape room this week.
Yes this is a terrible picture and I feel badly to do this to Ben especially as he’s quite fashionable and brilliantly talented but let’s be honest, nobody looks good in an escape room and no matter what way you cut it - it reads like you’re smack in the middle of a dorky corporate team building activity. Which you are.
Escape rooms make me want to douse myself in purell. You have to touch so much stuff and then think of all the people who touched all that stuff before you and if they washed their hands or picked their nose or not and just how often do you think they clean this place anyway…?
Sidenote: have you ever thought about the brand Purell? What a weird name. Works tho.
Anyway, we had a blast. It was awesome. I was on the Amnesia team with a bunch of high waisted, insanely talented twenty and early thirty-somethings wearing thick soled footwear. They were good at breaking the codes. I spent most of my time calling the game master for tips (I’ll have you know we finished with two minutes to spare. To boot - 60% of teams fail this particular rook. Humble brag.
A really thoughtful woman on our team sent a thank you note afterwards for doing an offsite. What a class act. I almost asked if I could have her mom’s email to complement her on her daughter. Maybe I will.
It was really, really good to get out of the office. It was also really good to spend time and get to know people you don’t see or have the occasion to work with that often. It was mostly good to chill out and relax.
